In a statement, the Committee and Council of the Foundation of the International Motor Show indicate that they “gave up organizing an event in 2021 for obvious reasons: according to a survey, most exhibitors indicated that they are unlikely to participate in a 2021 edition. and that will favor a next edition in 2022 “.
“It is not certain that the health situation will allow the organization of an event that will attract more than 600 thousand visitors and 10,000 journalists in the next season”, add the organizers.
Traditionally, the Geneva Motor Show is held in March. This year’s edition was canceled at the last minute by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The organizers asked the canton of Geneva for financial assistance to cover the losses caused by this first cancellation, estimated at CHF 11 million (US $ 11.2 million), and to prepare a new edition.
In early June, the Geneva authorities approved a loan of CHF 16.8 million, but the organizers of the Salon decided to reject it on Monday as they would not be able to make the first payment in June 2021.
In addition to the cancellation of the 2021 edition, the organization also plans to sell the right to hold the Geneva Salon to the owner of the Geneva Exhibition and Congress Palace (Palexpo), where this event is held.
